Jim is considered one of the top coaches in snooker as his list of past successes, including world ranked stars, demonstrate what he is capable of. His list of successful players, both amateur and professional, continues to grow as can be seen in both the News section and Testimonial section of the website. Jim also has a very successful Junior Academy with champions and International players in every age group.
Another reason to choose Jim is, as a player at the top professional level he was able to reach 29th in the World Rankings and was the first Scottish player to play at the Crucible, winning matches against many of the top professional players.
Having 30 years experience as a player and a coach, Jim can spot the smallest of things in players, that other coaches can’t, and by correcting these little faults he can help you make the difference between winning and losing.
That is why you should choose Jim Donnelly as your professional coach.
Jim turned professional in 1982. In his first season as a snooker professional he reached the world championship finals in Sheffield and quickly moved up the world rankings to reach a career of high 29 in the world beating a number of world top ranking players including:
Steve Davis (England Centenery Match)
Alex ‘Hurricane’ Higgins
David Taylor ‘The Silver Fox’
Steven Hendry (Pro-am)

Saif had never played snooker till his dad brought him to the Improve Your Snooker Academy a year ago. He has made great progress and is a natural player.
His top break in practice is 42 and as he is only 11 years old this is an excellent break. He will be entering the junior events this year and we have high hopes for his success.
11 year old Andrew has played in the junior tournaments of the season just finished and finished number 5 on the ranking list.
Whilst on holiday he won the Open Snooker Tournament held by the hotel he was staying in. He has a high break of 38 in practice and will be a force to be reckoned with in the junior tournament for the coming season.
Improve your Snooker Academy member Sam McKay will once again captain the under 16’s side at this year’s Home International event at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds. This is the second time in succession Sam has had this honour and will lead the team out against England, Wales and Republic of Ireland.
Sam, who recently just turned 14, is the Scottish national champion at both under 14 and under 16 levels and is also ranked number 1 at both levels in just his second full season of competition.
Jim would like to wish Sam all the best and is looking forward to some exciting matches over the next few days, keep up all the hard work Sam!
